Cheese Meatloaf Casserole

Ingredients:

1 ½ pounds ground beef

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

½ cup milk

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning

1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (for inside)

½ cup ketchup or tomato sauce (for topping)

1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (for topping)

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and oregano. Mix until just combined — do not overmix.

Press half of the meat mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese evenly over the meat layer.

Add the remaining meat mixture on top, pressing it down gently to cover the cheese layer.

Spread the ketchup or tomato sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.

Remove the foil, sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the meat is cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F / 70°C).

Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.
