Cheeseburger Pie
Ingredients:
Pie Crust:
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
10 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 large egg
2 tablespoons water
Filling:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lb ground beef
½ cup panko breadcrumbs
½ cup tomato sauce
¼ cup sweet onion, diced
¼ cup green pepper, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon dried oregano
¼ teaspoon black pepper
¼ cup whole milk
1 large egg
½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon dry mustard
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions:
1. Prepare the Pie Crust:
– In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
– In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water, then add to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
– Roll out the dough on a floured surface and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
2. Prepare the Filling:
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
– Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and vegetables are tender.
– Stir in the tomato sauce, breadcrumbs, salt, oregano, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
3. Assemble the Pie:
– In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and dry mustard. Stir into the beef mixture.
– Spoon the beef mixture into the prepared pie crust. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
4. Bake:
– Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
5. Serve:
– Allow the pie to rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
