Baked Chicken Parmesan Recipe | Crispy and Cheesy
Ingredients:
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup (100g) Italian breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 cups (480ml) marinara sauce
1 1/2 cups (150g) shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup (60g) grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)
2 tbsp olive oil or cooking spray
Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with olive oil or cooking spray.
Prepare the Chicken:
If the chicken breasts are thick, slice them in half horizontally to create thinner cutlets. Pound them to an even thickness using a meat mallet if necessary.
Set up a breading station: Place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten eggs in another, and mix the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper in a third dish.
Bread the Chicken:
Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, then coat it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Place the breaded chicken breasts on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake the Chicken:
Lightly drizzle or spray the tops of the breaded chicken with olive oil. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
Add Sauce and Cheese:
Remove the chicken from the oven. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and additional Parmesan cheese.
Return the chicken to the oven and bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve:
Garnish with chopped fresh basil or parsley if desired. Serve the Chicken Parmesan hot with pasta, a side salad, or garlic bread.
