Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Ingredients:

6 cups of day-old bread, cubed
4 cups of milk
1 cup of sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup of butter, melted
1 tsp of vanilla extract
1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
Vanilla Sauce:
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of butter
1/2 cup of heavy cream
1 tbsp of vanilla extract

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine bread and milk. Let it sit for 10 minutes to soak.
In another bowl, mix together sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour this mixture over the soaked bread and stir gently to combine.
Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
For the vanilla sauce, combine sugar, butter, and cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Serve the warm bread pudding drizzled with the vanilla sauce.
